8 Tips To Keep You Running In The Winter

Finally we have been getting a little snow here and there in Pennsylvania. I run year round, but Winter running does require a little more thought sometimes. Here are 8 Winter Running Tips to help you with your winter running.

Respect Your Universe - Discount Code And Review

I don't know about where you live, but here we've had one really brutally cold and quite snowy winter. As you know I'm coming back from injury, so the majority of my runs have been on the treadmill. But my trainer suggested that I get outside at least once a week for a run. I know that the difference in surface is important. I will run in the cold. But through my Winters here, I have learned that the right gear can make all of the difference in the world. So on a 19 degree (feels like 8) morning, I took my Respect Your Universe  endurance jacket out for a test run. There were several features about this jacket that I really liked. First, it has thumb holes (yahoo). Second, you can zip it up to where it will cover your nose/mouth (super score for really cold days). One thing to keep in mind though is to tie the strings into a bow or something that will shorten the strings (otherwise they will bounce around and drive you crazy). It also has pockets which ...

Injured Runner On The Slow Road To Recovery

Whoever said that recovering from a calf injury was a slow process wasn't lying. I had 3, that's right, not one but 3 stress fractures "in the worst possible place" (quoting the dr) a couple of years ago. And it was nothing compared to this. Honestly, the pain was minimal compared to this 'mild calf strain'. Maybe I've gone soft in my older years, but I'm sure thankful this wasn't a moderate or severe strain, because I've complained more about this mild calf strain than I probably have anything else in my life. (Yeah, it's starting to rank right up there with post labor recovery).  As I mentioned in a previous post Stop the Press - Injured Runner Runs Again , I'm doing a walk/run recovery plan.  I was told that I needed to take at least one workout a week outside. Well if you've been aware of the weather, you will know that it's COLD. I asked Hubby last night if we moved to the Antarctic.  I took Tuesday's wo...

The Run That Wasn't

Today's run was supposed to be a long run - 13 miles actually. And when I started out, I had talked myself into doing it. Although when I got up today, I said that I wasn't going to get a long run in this weekend. I'm tired, not over-trained tired, but just tired. First of all, I'm dieting. I know. I know. Dieting and marathon training are not a good combination. As I look over my food log this week, no only have I cut my calories, but I'm not even hitting my 'target' carbs for the diet. So that's one possible solution to my lack of energy. And this week, I got a sore throat. The sore throat comes and goes. One minute I'm sneezing. The next minute I am fine other than I'm tired. I am just really lacking energy. I suspect it is a combination of my diet lately plus possibly a little cold or something. But I started off today with good intentions. It was cold, but I was committed to get this run done. It took me over 10 minutes to get dressed ...
