The Girl Behind The Blog

I know that some of you know me personally; some of you don't. So I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself.

I'm a Southern Girl who was transplanted to Pennsylvania in 2007. I love the mountains, the rivers, and the trails. I love the 4 distinct Seasons, and I find Pennsylvania to be beautiful.

I do not miss the heat of Mississippi.

I do however miss the South. I miss my family, Southern Hospitality, the SEC, fried catfish, and amazing BBQ.

I will forever bleed maroon and white. #HailState

But for now, Pennsylvania is home, and I'm trying my best to enjoy my present.

Running for me has changed through the years. When I ran in Mississippi, I ran with my best friend. I met her at ungodly early morning hours, and for me it was talking and laughter instead of mile splits, distance and pace.

When I moved to Pennsylvania, running changed for me. It became more about self improvement and in time mile splits, distance and pace because I just couldn't find what I left behind in Mississippi.

And then it changed again. I got injured (more than once). I was over-training, and I lost the joy of running. It became a chore instead of fun. In fact, this year I have bailed on most of my races. This year I have run just to run, with no training, and I've introduced trail running to my running adventures.

I still consider myself predominantly a road runner, but I am becoming more proficient with the trails. (Susquehanna SuperHike25K

I've also added in cross training this year, and strength training. I am still very intimidated by strength training, but I'm trying. And I feel like I am constantly moving outside of my comfort zone.

I blog for fun. I write to express myself. (I've always expressed myself better in writing than with spoken words.) Google Analytics tells me that some of you read what I write, but not nearly enough to generate substantial income. My dream is to someday be able to use my passion (writing) as a source of income or supplemental income for my family. But I don't want to get caught up in the numbers game. I've been there, and done that. And from a blogger standpoint, it can be very disheartening and discouraging.

Instead, I write in hopes of encouraging others, and I pretty must just keep it real. Sometimes probably a little too real.

Oh and the name? Yes, I love ice cream. No, I really really really love ice cream. Anything with chocolate will do (no coconut though - not a friend of coconut - and I'm allergic to strawberries. I ate them for 25 years and suddenly became allergic).

So there you go.. there's a little bit about me.... the Girl behind the blog.

If you are so inclined, drop me a line and tell me about you.

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
