My Blog Plan - Planning For The Future

I'm not really sure what's up with me and logging (Do You Log Your Miles?) and planning, but I'm sensing a theme this year.

I saw some blog posts about some planners this year which got me to thinking about getting myself one. I came across My Blog Plan and decided to give it a try.

I've honestly never given much thought to 'planning' for my blog. Honestly,
I didn't even know that blog planners existed. ;-) And truthfully, I've never really considered myself a serious blogger. In fact, until just a few months ago, I would sort of quietly tell people that I blog - almost in a hushed whispered slightly embarrassed tone (lacking self confidence much? Geez!)  And then one day, I realized that I am a blogger. I do blog, and it's actually something that I am proud of.

So this year, when I realized that these planners existed (cause apparently at times I live under a rock as they've been around for awhile!), I decided to put some fears away and realize that I do have goals for myself. And failure is part of growth. So instead of being afraid of failure, I'm being honest with myself and putting my goals on paper.

I don't have any other blog planners to compare this one too, but I have to say so far I'm really pleased. First of all, the tips section (other than Wordpress since I use Blogger) was very helpful to me. I still have a lot to learn, but I found the sections very helpful.

And something about putting my 'yearly' goals on paper made it real for me. As I wrote my numbers, at first I aimed low because I heard a little voice in my head say that I'd never be able to get more hits/page views than that. And then I stopped, looked at what I wrote and crossed it out. You know, I might not reach my goal, but come on, at least be honest with yourself, so I wrote what I'd really hoped to achieve.

And it felt liberating! So far I am very pleased that I got a blog planner. It's giving me some ideas. I'm considering doing some weekly features, as well as guests posts. If you'd like to contribute a guest writer, please contact me.

But I'm getting pretty excited about this upcoming year. I'm telling you, being #injured is in no way fun, but it's forced me to slow down, and it's given me amble time to think. This injury, well it's going to take a long time to heal. I can sugar coat (no pun intended) it as much as I want, but the reality is that I am probably months away from getting back to any type of normal routine.

I have a June race that I deferred from last year - at this point, I'm hoping I can still run that one since it looks like Spring races have for the most part been scratched. But the main goal right now is to heal, heal well, and learn how to stay well.

If you blog, do you plan your posts or use a planner? If you aren't a blogger, do you plan/set goals for yourself in other areas of your life?

  1. I've never heard of these kinds of planners but I'm sure it would be really helpful! I tend to get stuck doing the same things week after week when it comes to blogging and I should really set some bloggin goals for myself. Good luck with your goals!

    1. Thanks... I've never really tried to be organized with my blog. I just wrote what I wrote. So I'm curious to see how this works out.

  2. I haven't purchased a blog planner either, since I am always changing where I want to go with my blog and what I want to do. This year has been super good for it - so far- since I did a rebranding. I have ideas in my head of where I want to be with page views, unique visitors, etc. For now, since my blog is just a hobby and not a 'job', I am focusing on my MBA classes instead.

  3. I love this! I am a full-time blogger but have never planned out my goals like this. I know that I really should, though!! I do have loose goals pertaining to my live in general and my Etsy shops, I just tend to be more relaxed as far as my blog is concerned!

    1. I liked the logging aspect of being able to see on paper how things are progressing (or maybe not). It does seem like a nice way to try to organize my thoughts.

  4. A blog planner? Amazing! I keep trying to make my own and a remade one would be so fantastic! I try to plan my blog out on a piece of paper and then it gets lost or snipped up by my boys! I'm sorry you are unable to run, but take it slowly. Not recovering properly could set you back even further :(

    1. Yep, I'm realizing this injury is just going to take awhile.. so it's time that I suck it up and deal with it. And yes, this blog planner is pretty awesome I think. The more I use it - the more I like it.

  5. I've never heard of a blog planner. Altho I'm never at a loss for topics to write about, it seems. Maybe because I don't blog every day. I set a goal of at least 2 posts/week. No matter what I write about, I try to tie it in with running. I really enjoy blogging and meeting people through my blog!

    1. Same here! I pretty much just write what I write! So I'm curious to see how this blog planner will fit in.

  6. I love the idea of a blog planner. Those quotes in the post its are really inspiring to me. The planner would really help on keeping me on track with sponsored posts and to make sure I am staying consistent throughout the week. What a great item to have. Thanks for sharing this!

  7. I have a planner but it's not specifically for my blog, it's a work/home duo planner but I love it. I track my spon posts and stuff with it but I don't write out blog goals etc. I just keep them in mind in my own head, like last year when I was determined to reach 500,000 page views and I did it. I just focus on the numbers anytime I'm on my blog and I love to see them grow. I don't plan posts as I write on the day, I'm more creative when I just let my thoughts flow :)

  8. Just wondering, where did you find your blog planner? I would be interested in one myself!

  9. I have been using CoSchedule for the last couple months and it does seem to help me plan out posts in advance. But my must-do-everything-right-now personality makes me want to hit publish the second I finish a post lol so I rarely schedule anything out :) I do like the idea of setting goals for myself with my blog though... I actually had not thought of that before. Thanks for the idea! I will now go set some goals for my blog!

  10. I've been hearing more and more about these planners (and those for logging miles) and I really want one for my blog. I'm the least organized person I know but I think a blog planner would keep me on track and even find time I didn't realize I had for other things I like to do. Thanks so much for sharing and good luck with your blog plan planning.

  11. I think what I like about this is that you keep your blogging info, deadlines, contacts all in one place and not shared with your family calendar. I also really like that it is printed and bound for you already. so many planners are printables but honestly, I just want it done.

  12. I have a ton of sticky notes on my laptop desktop, lol. That's about of organized I've gotten so far. I still want to make a blogger planner. I don't want to buy one when I can just photoshop my own. GOod luck to you!

  13. I am actually waiting for my new planner to get in the mail. I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for it. Target has tons awesome little goodies for planners on the dollar section :)

  14. I have been considering using a blog planner for years but I have never gotten around to it. I am glad it works for you! Maybe I need to give a try as well. I like how your planner is bound and ready to use. I have only seen printable options on Pinterest and blogs I visit. Xo

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
