Clean Eating - The Journey Begins

I'm still feeling as if I'm on a boat without the view! But I'm hoping the vertigo is going to completely leave me soon - especially since I have a Half Marathon NEXT that's right NEXT weekend. {trying not to freak out here}

Anyway, although I'm still not feeling great, I decided to try to do a little research on "clean eating". I know that realistically I'm not going to cut out every ounce of 'unclean' food out of our diet. But what I'm hoping to do is make smarter choices, and start to incorporate some healthy foods and eating habits into our lifestyle. With just the little research that I've done on the subject, I realize that my current diet is for the most part mainly processed foods - even the foods that I considered 'healthy'.

I came across this article from Prevention on 23 Ways to Eat Clean

This article broke it down into 1st choice, 2nd choice and limited. And it really helped me to understand exactly what processed meant.

I also came across this one Eating Clean for Dummies.

I don't plan to go through my pantry and toss all of my processed food. I do, however, plan to try to purchase very few processed items in the future. And when possible, I will reach for the least processed foods.

It's going to take me awhile to get the hang of this, and to transition my highly processed family over to the newer cleaner way of eating... but I'm ready to start the journey. You are more than welcome to join me :)

Here's what I had for lunch today.... Welcome to new beginnings!

  1. I like the way that book looks! I am going to check it out for myself. I try to stay away from wheat and sugar, but often find myself falling off the wagon and it does make a difference in how I feel the next day.
    I had popcorn and beer last night at the movies and woke up this morning with a terrible headache.
    Thanks for sharing your resources!

  2. I think it is easier to eat clean in the summer than any time throughout the year. :)

Pinrose Petal Pack Review and Giveaway - 10 Winners!

Bear with me, I know this blog is mainly about fitness, nutrition, and occasionally about being a stay-at-home mom, but I got the chance to review what I think is a pretty cool product and I wanted to share it with you. I'm not one to usually wear perfume. I have allergies, and I'm super sensitive to smells. So usually I just bypass perfume. But when I heard about Pinrose , I was intrigued. Being someone who is constantly in motion, and I know that many of you are the same way, I found this product to be very useful.  I'm talking about Pinrose, and their fragrances are in petal packs. They are perfect on-the-go packs. And on their website they have a  synesthesia   test where you basically look at a series of images and they conclude from that test what they think would be your best fragrances. I found the test very interesting. However, you were supposed to go with your gut and not think too long. On one of the images I actually changed my mind and changed...

Jogging Strollers Freedom And Fresh Air

Full Disclosure: I have partnered with Thule to #giveaway a Thule jogging stroller, but I have not been compensated in any form.  I remember when Lil Man was a baby. My only time to get in a workout was before Hubby went to work. Which meant I had to run at 5am or 6am after being up most of the night with Lil Man. You guessed it, those early morning runs just didn't happen most days. I tried. I really did, but I was exhausted. Yes, I have a treadmill which helped. But it didn't give me the freedom ( or the fresh air ) that my jogging stroller did. Pushing the stroller was hard. It became a challenge that I looked forward to overcoming. And on those days that running just wasn't going to happen, walking could. So I did. I could take Lil Man out at any time and get some exercise and fresh air. Sometimes it was all we needed to change both of our moods.

Pro Compression Marathon Socks Review & #Giveaway!

*affiliate links Full Disclosure: I received products free of charge for the purpose of providing a review. My opinions are completely my own based on my experience. If you know me, or have been following my blog for awhile, then you know that I am a firm believe in compression. Last year, I started having calf cramps, and my running buddies suggested calf sleeves. I listened and I am so very glad that I did! And honestly, I won't run without using compression. And once my run is over, I will usually 9 times out of 10 put on a pair of Pro Compression Marathon Socks for recovery. (FYI, I also love their low trainers to run in) Sshhh.. don't tell Hubby but I have an entire drawer full of Pro Compression socks. And well, I wear them everywhere - grocery shopping, preschool, you name it.
