30lb Kid in a Jogger for 7 Miles - Fitness Friday 5/17/2013

Wow, where has this week gone? It's been a busy one for me. I actually went from running just 3 days a week to running almost every day this week. Wait? I think I did run a little every day this week!

In Boot Camp Class on Tuesday we did some running drills. How could I forget? Trust me, my legs still remember (especially since we did some dead lifts too!)

Thursday, I met up with a local running group and went for an evening stroll. This was Lil Man's first run with a group. Pushing a jogging stroller is much harder than it looks! Those lightening fast Running Mommas make it look so easy! Oh, you know the ones.. when you are huffing and puffing in a race and they bounce by you all smiles and cheery with an 80lb kid in the stroller while you are sucking wind. I've been there more times than I like to count. In fact, Hubby commented "You always get beat by those ladies with kids, maybe after you have one you'll be faster." Yes, this is what EVERY pregnant woman wants to hear when she's the size of a house and can't run. But I knew this was Hubby's way of trying to encourage me not to give up running.  Lil Man refused to leave the house without a 'hat' like mine. (It said Will Run for Chocolate). We did our longest run so far - 7 miles.

And today, I went out for the first time ever on an early morning trail run. I really enjoyed it. You know when you start falling and you just can't break the momentum? Well that happened to me today during the run. Except, my friend's butt just happened to be there. Yep, I must admit I got a little up close and personal. Thankfully I didn't knock her down. And she saved me from hitting the ground (whew). On the way back, I did turn my ankle over, but no damage done. What did I think about the run? I really liked it. I plan to run some trails again next Friday. Hopefully this time I won't be falling into anyone :)

  1. I did the jogger stroller thing too. My son is nine now. It really helped my abbs! Now I am just working on getting back into shape after a long break from living healthy.

  2. I do the jogging stroller thing as well. How do you do it with a fixed wheel jogging stroller like that? I hate using mine cause the wheel doesn't work. Coming to visit from Aphalicious Bliss and running blogger :)

    1. Yeah, the fixed wheel is supposed to make it more stable. I do the 'pop a wheelie' when I need to make a turn.

  3. I love pushing the jogger for various reasons, it keeps my easy pace truly easy, but also allows my son to see and explore the world!

    1. I wasn't sure how he'd do with over an hour run, but so far so good. I have a feeling there will be more runs in our future!

  4. I admire everyone who does the jogging strollers! I skipped that whole chapter, ha ha :) I do sometimes wonder if I would like a running dog partner ... hmmm.

    1. I think I would (like a running dog partner). I think I'd feel safer when running alone in the early mornings!

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Pinrose Petal Pack Review and Giveaway - 10 Winners!

Bear with me, I know this blog is mainly about fitness, nutrition, and occasionally about being a stay-at-home mom, but I got the chance to review what I think is a pretty cool product and I wanted to share it with you. I'm not one to usually wear perfume. I have allergies, and I'm super sensitive to smells. So usually I just bypass perfume. But when I heard about Pinrose , I was intrigued. Being someone who is constantly in motion, and I know that many of you are the same way, I found this product to be very useful.  I'm talking about Pinrose, and their fragrances are in petal packs. They are perfect on-the-go packs. And on their website they have a  synesthesia   test where you basically look at a series of images and they conclude from that test what they think would be your best fragrances. I found the test very interesting. However, you were supposed to go with your gut and not think too long. On one of the images I actually changed my mind and changed...

Marathon Training No One Said It Would Be Easy Or Even Always Fun

No one said that it would be easy, or that it would always be enjoyable, and always fun. But when you've made a commitment - it's a commitment - and you see it through (and no I'm not talking about marriage, although I could easily make a correlation between the two ). I'm referring to my marathon training. See, last Sunday I had a 14 mile run on the schedule. Mentally I felt blah. Physically I felt 'ok' but not stellar. And when it came down to it, my mental blah won in the end and I bailed at 6 miles on my 14 mile run. If I thought I felt bad mentally before, I really felt bad mentally after bailing on the run. My trainer, being the trainer that she is, simply said, can you get in a 2 hour or so run on Monday? Gulp, I suppose so. And that's just what I did. It required me getting up before the sun woke up so that I could get in a 2 hour run before Hubby went to work. I am TERRIFIED of running solo in the dark. But I had bailed on my Long Run...
