Still Workin' On My Night Moves

It's that time of the year... if I want to run before Hubby goes to work - it's dark. If I want to run after hubby gets home  - it's dark.  I can use the treadmill, but well.. we all know that the treadmill isn't called the dreadmill for no reason.

So, that leaves me working on my night moves. If you remember from last year (Workin' on my Night Moves - Fear Of The Dark)  I began running solo in the dark.

It is still a work in progress. I am not afraid to run in the dark with friends, but running alone in the dark still takes a pep talk to get me out the door.

But I have had several people ask me about my vest and my lights that I use when running in the dark.

I use a Noxgear Tracer 360. It has been one of the best running purchases that I have ever made. There are numerous settings from various colors to flashing lights. Even the flashing lights have several settings. It's bright. The battery life is awesome, and I love the low battery indicator. I think so far I have only replaced the batteries once, and I've used it NUMEROUS times. Like I said, if you run (or cycle) or any outdoor exercise in low light or darkness, I highly recommend that you check out the *affiliate link Tracer360 Visibility Vest *affiliate link. I feel so much safer knowing that I can be seen. Also, where I live, we get a lot of fog, especially in the early mornings. The NoxGear vest gives me added security knowing that I'm more visible than without it.

Now to light my path... I've never been able to wear a headlamp. I've tried several different ones, but they always gave me a headache. And then I discovered Knuckle Lights. These lights are great! I actually forget that I'm 'carrying' them. So for those of you who don't like to carry things in your hands while you run, I still encourage you to check these out. They've been great for me.

One thing I have found is that you can use a lot of batteries. So I just remove the batteries after each run, then put them back in before I run again. It takes less than a minute and it's really made a difference (for me) with battery life.

So, there you have it... my go-to items for running in the dark.

Keep in mind, in addition to being seen, and able to see, use common sense and other safety measures when running in the dark. I don't wear headphones. I always wear a road-id. I always make sure that I am running against traffic, and make sure that someone knows my running route. There are also several apps now that have live tracking. In fact, I have live tracking with my Garmin that has worked great so far. And, I personally carry pepper spray.

Now get out there and work on your night moves!

  6. These are great. I do run in the dark, usually alone, but I don't have lights. I should look into that.

  11. I love the knuckle lights but they totally do kill the batteries if you leave them in. I can't tell you how often I grab them after not using them for a while and find dead batteries. I just bought new batteries for mine today in fact LOL.

    1. Yep, a running buddy told me about taking the batteries out. So I do that after every run. And I keep the batteries next to them in my drawer so when I get ready to use them I have the batteries right there.

I just ordered the Tracer360 Vest through your affiliate link. I had been using an old reflective traffic vest, but those don't attract attention until the car is upon you, and too many drivers don't notice or care in that situation. I like the idea of the 360-view lights that can be seen from a safe distance. I wouldn't have known about this option without your review and photos.

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
