Embracing The Changes In Life

Someone recently asked me about my running and how I currently feel about it. True, I'm not running 5 days per week as I have in the past. I'm not even running my usual 3. I think my new norm for awhile (maybe forever) might be 2 days a week.

How do I feel about it? I feel liberated. I feel like stepping outside of the model of runner to something bigger. Because I've said it before, and I will say it again, I am more than just a runner.
As I grow older with my family, I realize that life is constantly changing. I am constantly changing. And learning to embrace the change definitely makes for an easier transition. For probably the first time in my life, I am

My New Found Passion For Walking

Walking - who knew that it would be so simple yet so satisfying.  (And for anyone who may have missed it, you can catch up here on (How I'm Adjusting To My New Normal) But since distance running isn't a part of my life (see above mentioned post) I'm actually embracing walking. And I'm not currently talking about power walking, but just walking.

Now keep in mind,  I am running twice a week and doing spin class weekly. So I have several days out of the week where I am pushing myself to improve my cardiovascular fitness. I realize that leisure walking isn't necessarily going to increase my cardiovascular fitness. But I will say that although my legs have been muscular for years, I think they are the
most toned that they have ever been.

I'm not currently doing leg weights. But I am walking and a lot. I'm walking a lot for my job, but for the last couple of weeks, I've transitioned my long run to a long walk. I'm currently up to 5 miles.

And I'm ENJOYING it. I have always hated long runs. Seriously, the only time I ever really liked a long run was when it was over. I loved the feeling of accomplishment of completing the distance, but I never really ever actually enjoyed the long run. Now that I think back, usually my long runs brought dread and apprehension.

But other than it's super time consuming, and I'm not sure how I will make time for it, I am really enjoying getting out and walking. And it dawned on me this past week that I might not can run long, but maybe I can walk long (if that makes sense). Do I see me walking a marathon? Ummmmm no. But although I can't run longer distances, I'm thinking that I might try walking them as long as they are enjoyable.

It was a good reminder that not all exercise has to be intense to be beneficial.

Writing is one of my passions, and I'm stepping out there on faith to follow my dream. If you like this blog or this post, please take a moment to share it with friends. Thank you for helping me follow my dream.
