It Can Still Be My Year Of Health

I have a lot of nervous energy right now. With Lil Man going to school full time, plus other family dynamics changing, I've been doing a lot and I mean a lot of nervous organizing. Yep, when I get overwhelmed I organize (sometimes clean). But it's mainly been organizing. I guess because I can't control other things I try to control what I can.... which is getting rid of clutter. Clutter drives me crazy. It really does. I take it as long as I can (because it doesn't bother others in my family) and then it just has to be dealt with. So this past week I organized a lot of areas in my home probably to the point of borderline obsessive.

But I am SO glad that I was able to get out and MOVE this week. Yep, I took the boot off last weekend, and on Monday I went for my first run in 4 weeks. I didn't know what to expect. I was actually pretty nervous that I'd feel a lot of pain. My foot felt weird. It was still swollen and definitely off  - but no major pain.

Tuesday I biked.

Wednesday I walked.

Thursday I ran 2 miles. I did feel a sharp pain once, but it subsided.

Friday I rested because my foot was pretty sore. Actually, I've felt pain all week, but I was told that I would. Basically it's supposed to be my new normal? It's not severe (most of the time) but it is annoying. There could still be a fracture, but I'm waiting to see how things progress.

But the more that I've read, weight can play an issue. And from my unprofessional opinion, even muscle weight might be too much. Does that make sense? I was around 105-110 (I'm only 4'10") for the majority of my adult life. Over the last couple of years the weight has definitely crept up to the 130's. Some of it is muscle, and some of it is definitely fat. But I think regardless, I need to take some weight off. So that's where my focus is at the moment - losing the weight and seeing if it does help with the pain.

I'm not really sure how to proceed with lifting. I think it's important. Do I not lift as heavy? Do I use more reps and lighter weights? I'm not sure about all of that at the moment. But I do know what I can focus on and that's eating with a purpose and keeping my food in check.

I said at the beginning of this year that this would be my year of health. WORST. INJURY. YEAR. EVER - but you know... the year isn't over... and it doesn't mean that it still can't be my year of health.

If I lost a pound per week, I could realistically lose 15-20lbs by the end of the year which would put me back down to normal by the charts. And it would put me where my body was used to being pre-weight gain. My blood pressure is really high in addition to the other issues that I currently have going on.

I'm disappointed that I'm not running my Harrisburg and Hershey Half Marathons, but instead of focusing what I can't do at the moment, I'm going to focus on what I can do.

And what I can do is KEEP MOVING like the doctor told me to, and focus on healthy weight loss.

It's too early to tell what my future running holds, but as long as things continue to progress, I plan to run twice a week with cardio the other days. (with of course a rest day or two). I will modify as needed.

The journey to a healthier me continues.... and I admit that I'm excited about the idea of shedding the extra weight.

To health...

Pinrose Petal Pack Review and Giveaway - 10 Winners!

Bear with me, I know this blog is mainly about fitness, nutrition, and occasionally about being a stay-at-home mom, but I got the chance to review what I think is a pretty cool product and I wanted to share it with you. I'm not one to usually wear perfume. I have allergies, and I'm super sensitive to smells. So usually I just bypass perfume. But when I heard about Pinrose , I was intrigued. Being someone who is constantly in motion, and I know that many of you are the same way, I found this product to be very useful.  I'm talking about Pinrose, and their fragrances are in petal packs. They are perfect on-the-go packs. And on their website they have a  synesthesia   test where you basically look at a series of images and they conclude from that test what they think would be your best fragrances. I found the test very interesting. However, you were supposed to go with your gut and not think too long. On one of the images I actually changed my mind and changed...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Jogging Strollers Freedom And Fresh Air

Full Disclosure: I have partnered with Thule to #giveaway a Thule jogging stroller, but I have not been compensated in any form.  I remember when Lil Man was a baby. My only time to get in a workout was before Hubby went to work. Which meant I had to run at 5am or 6am after being up most of the night with Lil Man. You guessed it, those early morning runs just didn't happen most days. I tried. I really did, but I was exhausted. Yes, I have a treadmill which helped. But it didn't give me the freedom ( or the fresh air ) that my jogging stroller did. Pushing the stroller was hard. It became a challenge that I looked forward to overcoming. And on those days that running just wasn't going to happen, walking could. So I did. I could take Lil Man out at any time and get some exercise and fresh air. Sometimes it was all we needed to change both of our moods.
