5 Reasons To Set Goals

All across blogger land, there are these things called linkups with cutsie little names. But I came across the Friday Five 2.0 via another blogger friend. It looked like fun, and I thought I'd join. Each week there is a theme (loosely followed), and this week the theme is whatever you want to write about.

So for my very first Friday Five 2.0, I'm going to give you (drum roll please) 5 Reasons To Set Goals.

Let's face it, if you are anything like me, without a goal (and a plan), things just don't happen.

So here are 5 reasons to set goals.

Without A Goal Where Are You Headed?
I have found that if I set a goal it gives me a sense of direction. Otherwise, I tend to flounder. I'll start this way, go back, turn, go another way, and then another way. Without a clear direction, I get lost (not just physically but mentally). With a goal, I have a direction where I am headed. Setting a goal helps me to also ...

Stay Focused
Having a clear goal (did you notice that I said clear? That's right. I feel that goals need to be specific and not generic.) helps me to stay on track. Because I know where I am going (my end result) it helps me to stay focused on the task at hand.

Setting Goals Can Be Fun
Yes, I am serious. It can be fun to put a goal out there, and then work hard for it. It's such a great sense of accomplishment to watch hard work pay off and obtain your goals.

Make Positive Changes
I don't believe that we should strive for perfection. I don't. But I think being the best version of you (whatever that is) that you can be is a great thing to strive for. Setting a goal is a way to make positive changes - whether you want to break a habit or create a habit. Positive change is good, and a goal can help accomplish that.

Goal Setting Can Make Us Dig Deep
This has two meanings. First we have to dig deep within ourselves to create those goals. We have to move past fears and insecurities to even say that we will 'go for it'. And once we make that decision, then we have to dig deep to reach those goals.

So there you have it, Five Reasons To Set Goals.

What are your goals that you have set and will be setting for yourself?

Today I'm linking up with  Running on Happy and  Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup. So head on over and check out some of the other blogs.

  1. I had some goals in mind for 2017, but this diagnosis of RA has turned things upside down. The one goal that doesn't change is to have fun with running. That is the best goal!

  2. Setting goals is so important. I'm holding a goal setting workshop in a couple weeks, actually. Wahoo!

    Happy new year!

  3. I am not a big resolution person but I do like to set small goals. This year it is going to be focus on a few things rather than try to do everything

  4. Thanks for choosing us to link up with! My friend and I were just talking about Goals for the new year last night. I mentioned i'm not a "goal" person per say. I will definitely make plans, but won't call them "goals". It's weird, I know!

  5. I like your first reason: Where are you headed? I have two financial goals for 2017 and I feel like the whole purpose of them is to set me headed in the right direction so that I can live a comfortable and FUN life as I get older!

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
