Because I Said That I Would Be Honest

You know those pounds that I lost last week? Well, they are back. I am back up to 127lbs. Is it water weight? Maybe?  More than likely not... Am I frustrated? YEP!

Gone are the days in my 20's and 30's where I could drop 5lbs in one week by well, not changing much at all. Since I had Lil Man and I dieted to lose the 50lbs that I had gained during pregnancy, plus marathon training and dieting to try to get to ideal race weight, well my weight has been an issue for me - both physically and mentally.

I guess that was my first time that I actually tried to lose more than a few vanity pounds, and well since then I have struggled ever since. And I'd honestly like to know why, because I think if I figure out the why then maybe I can find a solution (for me).

And what I really want...
really and truly want.. is to just eat without worrying about calories, which food group, is it bad or good, will it make me gain weight or retain water... or actually lose weight.

What I really want is do is stop the "all or nothing" attitude. The I messed up, I'll start over tomorrow, so I eat everything and I mean everything today. I want to LISTEN to my body. I want to know my body again, because honestly, I don't even know my own body right now. It's very foreign to me.

Last week I knew I was hungry - I knew I was - but I wouldn't eat - it would be too many of this or that because of what I was eating later. Then I said forget it and ate.. and then I said forget it and ate and ate and ate because I had already 'messed' up.

Well this is messed up... this way of thinking.. this way of living.. this way of fearing the scale when it's up, loving the scale when it's down. And this is not the way that I want to live.

So I don't know what to tell you, and I almost didn't update this week. But I said that I would be honest and transparent about this journey... so this is it.. honesty along with a side of frustration.

  1. I was having these same feelings only a month and a half ago, when I finally threw in the diet towel and started following intuitive eating. I've gained some weight since then, yes, but it's leveled off and will probably go back down the more I get in touch with my body and it's signals. It's also not the scary amount of weight I would think from how much recovery eating I've done. The weight came on fast that first week but quickly leveled off when my metabolism sped up to catch up with my eating. I no longer feel crazy around food. I'm not freezing all the time from my diet-induced slow metabolism. I can have a box of donuts in the house and eat ONE. Not to mention I'm recovering from runs better than I ever have. I've gotten to my "goal body fat percentage" before and wasn't happier. I am gonna put all that effort I used to put into dieting into learning to love what and where I am today. Thanks for sharing your truth. It really really resonated with me. Sorry I'm anonymous. I don't blog. Just read them. :)

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
