The Scale, Body Fat, and Measurements

The biggest loser, get fit challenge ended. I definitely fell out of 3rd place. But since then I've struggled to maintain my weight loss. In fact, I quickly reverted back to old habits - STRESS eating.

I have got to change that behavior - and fast!

But as I felt myself slipping back to a higher weight, I did something that I have never done before, I joined a dietbet.com challenge. This is my first time, and I'm still not 100% sure how it works.
If I understand correctly, I pay a fee. If I lose 4% of my body weight in 28 days, I will get my $$ back. (Or I sure hope that's how it works!). And I know it might seem silly, but honestly, I'm still not at a point where I don't need some extra motivation. I believe that eventually I will get to that point, but I'm not there now.

However, I'm switching my focus from 'just the scale' as I do believe the Scale Is Just A Number. to Body fat % and measurements.

So, as I've started to up my strength training routine (For free workouts plans, read this), I took measurements and got a base reading of my body fat. For the body fat, I went to the Capital Blue store and used their machine to get a baseline. My scale at home also does body fat, but I think theirs is supposed to be a little more advanced. Either way, I have a baseline. So if the number on the scale is going up, and so is body fat and my measurements, well, I definitely can't claim it's muscle.

However, if the scale isn't going down, but my measurments and body fat are decreasing, then I know that I am putting on some muscle mass.

My foot is swollen from the race this past weekend. So apparently I still have Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome. So I haven't had a lot of cardio this week. But I have been doing my strength training. I'm still finding my way at the gym, but my Skirt Sports (affiliate link) has really helped with my confidence.

I no longer hid behind my clothing.. and that's a great feeling.

The journey continues...

  1. Strength training helped me lose a lot of weight, together with some HIIT, so just be patient and it will happen. One of the best measure of weight loss is how your clothes fit, so you can throw the scale out completely :P

  2. Great perspective! Will you be doing your body composition measurements at the end of the month using the same methods?

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
