#TuesdayTidbit - Using Magnesium Sulfate

In the past, I've tried Ice Baths, and although they did help, I found them too uncomfortable that I didn't do them often.

Instead, I turned to Magnesium Sulfate soaks instead (A Soak Will Do You Good). I've been experimenting with using Epsom Salt with Aveeno Stress relief bubble bath. I like to mix the two as I enjoy both the scent and the bubbles.

But, what I didn't realize is that Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) is actually absorbed into your skin. But wait - that's a good thing! Did you know
that you could be deficient in magnesium? I forgot which magazine I was reading (I think it was Dr. Oz), but I read that many of us are deficient in magnesium. Some symptoms include: muscle cramps, nausea, anxiety, high blood pressure, fatigue, Type II diabetes, dizziness, memory issues and confusion. (for more info, check out http://naturalsociety.com/16-magnesium-deficiency-symptoms-signs-low-levels or http://www.ancient-minerals.com/magnesium-deficiency/symptoms-signs/#list) Also, depression can also be linked with magnesium deficiencies.

And I saw several articles where magnesium sulfate can help regulate blood sugar. Yep, a regular soak can help regulate insulin. For a pdf of a study, click here.

No wonder I have been feeling so much better after my mineral bath soaks! I honestly thought it was just because I was getting a few minutes to relax. (I'm sure that was an added bonus!) But the reality is, it's actually healthy and helping to replenish minerals that I may very well be lacking. (Of course I am not a doctor, and I'm not suggesting that everyone should use magnesium sulfate, or that it will cure any illness. I'm just using my personal experience and know that by soaking several times a week I have personally noticed a difference in my mental state as well as muscle cramps.)

After doing a little research and reading how beneficial Magnesium Sulfate can be, I will definitely continue my soaks! (oh, and yeah that's a 19.75lb bag of magnesium sulfate. I decided to buy a bulk bag since I am using several cups a week)

What about you, do you use Epsom Salt?

  1. I've not used Epsom Salts but I've heard great things about it. I'll try it when marathon training fires up.

  2. Oh, now this makes sense. I was wondering why everyone was swearing by Epsom Salt soaks, but now I see why. How long do you soak for?

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
