Friday Five Linkup - Things I Like About My Favorite City

Today, I'm participating in the Friday Five Linkup from Eat Pray Run DC, You Signed Up For What, and Mar On The Run. And today's theme is 5 Things I Like About My Favorite City.

I'm from Starkville, Mississippi. But I currently live in Dauphin, Pennsylvania. So I'd like to tell you 5 things about the area that I live in.

1. To me, it's beautiful. Don't get me wrong. I'm a Southern girl, and I totally miss the South. But I think where I live is beautiful. I love the Mountains, and I love the Rivers. Here is a sneak peek from my run here in Dauphin.

If you enjoy hills, Dauphin is a great place to run.

2. The Fort Hunter / Harrisburg area doesn't disappoint either. Here is a view from one of my runs. I love the Rockville Bridge.

You can get a mixture of flat or hills, depending on which route that you take.

3. We have what's called the Capital Area Greenbelt. And this is where a lot of my runs with my running group take place. Once again, you can choose flat along the river, or hills in the Wildwood Area. It's a very popular area to run, and very pretty.

4. SNOW. I love snow. I get giddy every time I see it in the forecast. I'm not a big fan of the bitter cold that we are having right now. But I love the white stuff. Honestly, in the Winter time, I can't think of anything more beautiful than the sun shining and everything everywhere is covered in white snow.

5. Last but not least, Hershey Park. Lil Man and I went all Summer long. And honestly I think we both still miss going. We had a blast. I debated on whether we should buy season passes, and I am so so so very glad that we did. We went most days out of the week. And we created memories that will last a lifetime.

So, there you have it - My Friday Five things that I like about my favorite/current City.

  2. Dauphin is a beautiful area. We used to drive through on the way to visit my friends at college. It's nice to be out in the country yet still close to a few different cities if you need more to do.

  5. I love these great running spaces and parks, Amy; it's so nice that you have these places to enjoy. I really do NOT miss living in a city that is primarily covered in concrete - ha! Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy some (cold) sunshine.

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
