Let's Talk About Fat

Full Disclosure: I received products free of charge for the purpose of providing a review. My opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

Let's talk fat... abdominal fat that is... it's my problem area.. the area I tried to hide.. the one that peeks out from beneath my clothes... my muffin top... my cake top depending on how much I've eaten and what I'm wearing.

I think you get the point.... so let me introduce you to The Ozeri Body Tape Measure and Body Fat Test Caliper Combo Pack

The concept is really quite simple.
You 'pinch' an area an inch above your hip bone, pull the skin fold away from your body, place the FAT-measure jaws and close until the plastic connector stops. You take that number, compare it to the enclosed chart and TADA you have your body fat measurement.

Now let me say, I'm not going to claim that this is 100% accurate for the the amount of body fat that you have. First it's going to depend on several factors such as hydration, time of the month, where you actually 'pinch', and if you are using the device 100% as the instructions say.

But, the Ozeri Body Tape Measure and Body Fat Test Caliper Combo Pack is something that I plan to use on a weekly, or at least bi-monthly basis to track my progress.

Currently, I'm not a fan of the scale. One, I know I've gained weight. I can see it. I can feel it. And seeing that number on the scale usually upsets me. Because I'm doing more strength training and that number might not be falling like I would like for it too, but also my weight can fluctuate a lot during a day or overnight.

But with the Ozeri Body Tape Measure and Body Fat Test Caliper Combo Pack I can use this tool to keep track of my progress. It's a quick and easy way to see if my body fat is changing... and hopefully going down instead of up!

So if you want a measuring tool instead of the scale (or even in addition too), I would recommend  The Ozeri Body Tape Measure and Body Fat Test Caliper Combo Pack, I feel it is a simple to use tool to give you a quick overall of your body fat measurement.

Oh, and as a bonus, I really liked the tape measure that also comes in the combo pack. The tape measure stops to where you pull it out which helped me to read the measurement easier, and also it's fully retractable. I give these tools a thumbs up.

  1. I have seen fat caliper at gyms and wellness centers but I have never bothered to use one. I know I have a high body fat ratio right now. I think these scare me more than anything. Something just doesn't seem so nice about having your fat pinched. (LOL) But they can be a real eye opener and motivator for those needing to lose weight and monitor their progress.

  2. Like you, I'm also not a fan of the scale. Often I find that when I start working out more rigorously, it leads to a weight gain because I am gaining muscle, even if I am losing fat. I try to go more by how I look and things like that, so I think a tool like this or the measuring tape would be great for myself personally.

  3. I never realized that these tools are sold, I thought these types of measurements were only available at the physician's office. I have no idea what my body fat ratio is! I work out all of time: spinning, rowing, weight training, barre etc. I am always looking to improve my body in any way, thank you for an excellent review!

  4. I cut out wheat and sugar from my diet about 4 months ago, and lost nearly 30 pounds. One of the things that I wished I would have done at the start of my journey was to use a tape measure and other tools to see the physical changes that my body had gone through. Mostly, I am curious about my thighs and where I've lost inches at overall.

  5. I've seen fat measuring tools before on the Biggest Loser Show but have never actually seen the product myself. How cool is it, I would love to have one, I think its a great tool to have on hand or even to have used at the doctor's office. A tape measure really can calculate and measure progress. These tools would be great for a 2015 resolution of health!

  6. I think we need to get this Ozeri Body Tape Measure. I don't know how to use it but I can learn it. Me and my wife decided to get weight-loss this year and this product is a great help. I hope the price is not that expensive?

  7. I haven't used either of these tools, but I could see how they would be really great to help track your weight loss. The body fat measurement tool is particularly great, and it seems much more accurate than an online calculator. When you're losing weight, it's important to focus on how a healthy diet and exercise are affecting your entire body, and not just focus on calories in and out!

  8. I hated this part when going to the doctors! I didn't know that you can actually buy them and do it at home. I definitely can see that it could be helpful to measure your weight loss more accurately.

  9. This is a perfect post for this time of year, at least it is for me since I'm refocusing on exercise and healthy eating. I especially like the tape measure based on your description. Plus, the price is much more reasonable than I expected.

  10. Sounds like a great tool for those who want to keep track of weight loss or gain. I've never used a tool like this before though and I don't know if I'd like it. The abdominal area is my problem area too, I need to change that this year and get a flatter tummy, post-childbirth hasn't been kind to me!

  11. Ahhhh, calipers! I remember using them when I was Officer Training. I dread to think what they would read now. I'm always a bit wary of measurements in specific areas of the body as like you say, it all depends on several factors particularly in women. Great tool for tracking as long as you aren't obsessive I think.

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
