Nut Butters, Say What?

I like peanut butter. I can't say that I'm obsessed with it like I am ice cream or chocolate, but I don't turn my nose up at it either. And since Lil Man has started eating peanut butter sandwiches (and just 3 weeks ago he wouldn't touch the stuff), we've increased our peanut butter consumption. So when I came across this site (Blind Spot Nut Butters) I was intrigued. Blind Spot Nut Butters is a local company. Here is a little background info taken from their website (http://www.blindspotnutbutters.com/our-story.html)

"In 2012, Troy was diagnosed with Stargardt's Disease, a degenerative retinal condition in which he has lost most of his central vision in one eye and has several blind spots in his better eye.  It has reduced his vision to the point that he is no longer able to work. So, we decided that it was a perfect time to start a new business venture and since we are peanut butter addicts and we were pros at making our own blends, we decided to create custom nut butter blends.  So, we set to work trying out recipes and making blends that we thought were unique and suited our vision for the company. Using Blind Spot in the name is part of that vision...sometimes you need to be blinded to be able to visualize a bigger picture.  We are committed to turning the negative of Troy's disability into a positive for our family's future.  A portion of our profits will always be committed to funding research for retinal conditions like Troy's and we are hopeful that one day a cure will be found."

So after finding out a little more about the company, I was interested in trying out some of their products. I had the opportunity to sample Hazelnut Mocha (a blend of hazelnuts and cashews, seasoned with espresso and cocoa powders) and French Toast (an almond and peanut butter blend with hints of maple, vanilla, and orange.)

Since I'm not a HUGE peanut butter fan, I really wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. I toasted a piece of bread and smeared one half with the Hazelnut Mocha and the other half with French Toast. I kid you not, it was love at first bite. I tried the Hazelnut Mocha first and my first thought was "Wow, this is really good." So I tried the French toast. And I couldn't decide which was better. So I made myself another piece of toast, and tried them again ;) I mean, come on, sometimes it does take more than one taste test to actually get a feel for the product. :) I stopped myself from making a 3rd piece of toast (ha) but I could have easily devoured more of the delicious Nut Butters. I do believe I am a new fan of Blind Spot Nut Butters.

In fact, I like them so much, I'd like to share a jar with a lucky reader. It's that time of the year - pumpkin! So one lucky reader will win a full size jar of Pumpkin Pie Nut Butter. Just enter below to win. The giveaway will end on October 4, 2013 and is open to U.S. residents only. I am excited to share this amazing product with you.

    1. It is! I didn't have any bagels to try it on so I only ate it on toast, but it was great!

Running My Life

Wow, has it really been 2 years since my last post? I suppose that I allowed life to get in the way. For any faithful blog readers, I apologize. Although, I'm not sure how many people actually read blogs anymore. I think most people use other social media platforms.  (By the way, drop by and say hi on Insta. )  But for some reason, each year when I pay for my google domain, I can't seem to let it go. As silly as it sounds, this little space is mine. And lately I've been struggling with ownership and acceptance. And my domain renewal was a not so gentle reminder that I have a voice .  Seriously, you'd think by 48 that I'd have this figured out - nope - apparently not. However, I am wise enough to know that we have a choice to allow situations to harms us or make us stronger. I'm choosing to let this mid-life quandary make me stronger. And because of this, I'm setting goals, taking charge, and reexamining priorities.  Movin' on...

Self Care Is Not Selfish It's Necessary

It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. And I'll say it just one more time in case you didn't hear me. It's not selfish to take care of yourself. I have found through experience that when I'm not taking care of myself, not only do I suffer but my family suffers. So ditch the mom guilt and take the time that you need! I have a tendency to keep pushing my needs aside until I reach a breaking point. We've had a very busy fun summer so far. However, I've struggled to get some quality ' me ' time to decompress. I'll spare you the meltdown that ensued. But the reality check that followed prompted me to take action.

When The Planner In You Must Be Flexible

In case you haven’t figured this out by now, I’m a planner. I know - shocker right?!? :) So although I love substitute teaching, it’s making the planner in me anxious. And it’s been reeking havoc on my workouts. Basically the morning of or maybe the night before, I find out if I’m working. So my day ( that I thought I had planned ) can be turned upside down in an instant. But, truthfully, isn’t that really the same with everyone?
