Short River Run

I went for a short run this afternoon down by the River Front. I expected the path to be clearer than what it was. I ran into several snow patches. And then just when I thought it was clear I came up on a snow bank that was over 4" tall - ugh. I had to run through the mud to the other path. Today wasn't my best run, but it wasn't my worst one either. This is my first run outside at a faster pace in the last couple of weeks. I've been running on the treadmill. Apparently I'm going to have to get readjusted to running outside. I did ok. I averaged about a 10 minute mile. I do however have a 4 Mile race coming up. So I hope I am able to get some outside runs in before the race. I was struggling way too much with my breathing. But it was beautiful today. I'm glad I was able to get the 3 mile run in. My mood greatly improved after this run.

Swimming

I decided that since I didn't run today that I would go to the gym and swim. I had high hopes of swimming 30 minutes. After the first HALF of a lap I wasn't so sure I would make it 10 minutes. I was able to go 20 but that was my limit today. I still have a hard time with swimming. I get so tired. But I plan to try to swim at least once or twice a week to crosstrain. I hope I get better at it. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Slow Runs

I was able to get in a couple of slow runs this week by running with some running buddies. It was nice to get back outside and OFF the treadmill! I have a hate hate relationship with the treadmill. But, I have to admit it has kept me running through the winter. I'm not sure how my running will work out this year. I'd really like to train for a half marathon, but at this time I think I may have to keep to shorter distances. It is not something that I want to hear, and I'm not sure if I'll do it, but I know it is a possiblity that I might not be allowed to run longer distances. Guess I'll just have to run shorter faster distances (ha). I'm trying to think positive and not get caught up in what I am missing out on at the moment. Looks like I may have to skip some my gym work outs this week (bummer). Maybe by the end of the week I'll be able to get back to a schedule. I don't like missing my work outs - and neither do the people around me. I tend to get a

4 Mile Treadmill Run

What a frustrating run.... not so much the run itself but the treadmill. I got on the treadmill at the gym around 5:30am today. I took a small towel with me to put over the console because I have a tendency to look at the seconds slowly tick by on the timer. Part way into the run, I readjusted the towel. MISTAKE - as I accidentally hit the emergency button. There I was standing on the treadmill as my work out was complete according to the stupid machine. Granted .84 at one point in time was a huge accomplishment for me; today, it was not the goal. I had to restart the treadmill and begin again. This time as I was reaching for the water, I hit the stop button on the opposite side of the emergency button. Seriously??? You've got to be kidding me. There I was once again standing on the machine with the display mocking me with 1.74 miles. Once again, at one point in time, this would have been an accomplishment for me. But today, that was not the goal. I once again restarted the t

Treadmill Running

It's been a long time since my last post! I've been busy and preoccupied lately. In January, I was able to get in a few frigid runs. After my last below 20 degree run, I decided I would stick with the treadmill until the temps warmed up some. Before the latest snow storms, I was able to sneak in an afternoon run down by the River. It was an enjoyable run. I hate the treadmill. As soon as I get on, I want to get off. But I was able to get in two short runs this week. I ran 3 miles on Monday and 3 miles on Friday. I've also been trying to add in some strength training. I plan on registering for my first race this year. It's the Run 4 Luck. It's a 4 mile race in Lititz in March. I ran it last year. I hope to do a little better this year. Although my time last year was respectable for me (about a 10 minute mile). I still hope to beat it. I'm considering going for an outside run tomorrow, but it will depend on how much melting and refreezing we have. I don'
